This website has been re-purposed in 2009, almost 3 years after its last update. Both the automotive and IT industries made huge progress in the meanwhile and the PC installed in a vehicle has become more of an unusual solution instead of commodity. Each year, cars seem to get more and more complicated. Cars today might have as many as 50 microprocessors on them. Although these microprocessors make it more difficult for you to work on your own car, some of them actually make your car easier to service. The other roles the CarPC could accomplish, like multimedia solution, GPS positioning and route planning, mobile Internet access and engine tuning are taken over by individual devices, each with its limitations, lack of interoperability and different user interface.
These said, CarPC.ro will not try to sell you a custom solution, although we did that before and it had a certain success. Instead we will focus on delivering product reviews and discussing the industry trends. With the renewed focus on electric cars and the convergence of laptop with mobile phone, the next CarPC spin-off might not be the realm of DIY and PC hacking, but just a simple way to cut down cost and integrate all computer-like features in a single on-board device.
